Nikki Sixx's: This Is Gonna Hurt

On April 12th it was National Drop Everything And Read Day (D.E.A.R. Day). This day is suppose to encourage kids to sit down and read for at least 30 minutes. Students should be reading at least 30 minutes a day anyway. With all the new technology and TV shows there are more and more distractions and we aren't reading as much anymore. Everyone should be reading for at least 30 minutes, whether it be a book, a magazine, or the newspaper.

I wanted to participate in this day! I went to go get new books for our Van Meter library. I got Katie Couric's new book. The Best Advice I Have Ever Gotten. I also was really excited to go because Nikki Sixx's new book This Is Gonna Hurt came out! I love books written by Nikki Sixx, and this one is great. I would recommend this book to just about anyone!

Nikki Sixx is currently on a book tour, visiting about 10 Barnes & Nobles and other local bookstores. I have read all of his books. His last book The Herion Diaries, was all about his addictions he had as a kid and young and adult. He talks about how he lived with a demon inside of his head, and how he died and came back to life. I have also read the book that is about their band, Motley Crue. The Dirt, this book was so interesting, it wasn't written by Nikki Sixx but it was still a great read!

Motley Crue is one of my favorite bands, Nikki Sixx is one of my favorite authors and for sure my favorite bassist. I think the way he writes is very appealing to everyone, it is interesting and the way he views the world now is inspiring. This book This Is Gonna Hurt is all about how beauty is not just skin deep. It is way deeper than just looks. Beauty is on the inside. A quote that I saw on the second documentary video for This Is Gonna Hurt, was said by James Michael (Sixx:AM's lead singer). Nikki asked him "What is beauty?" James responded with "someone who is confident about themselves, and someone who doesn't judge other people based on looks." I think that is so moving I think everyone should strive for that. It made me think about how I see myself, it made me think about how I see other people, and how I see myself.

I strongly believe everyone should read Nikki Sixx's new book, it will make them think about how they treat other people. It might look like a intimidating book, but once they open it and realize they shouldn't judge it by just looking at it I think they will enjoy it! I really want Nikki Sixx to come to Des Moines Barnes & Noble. Meeting Nikki has been a goal of mine for a long time. About 4 years ago I got hooked on Motley Crue. Nikki Sixx is the biggest asset to the band. Some people may say he is a drug addict, a sellout, and a freak. He might have had a drug addiction when he was younger, but he has moved past that. He sees his life so differently now. He is motivated, he is an accomplished musician, photographer, designer, and author. He has accomplished so much, this is just the begging a new chapter of his life.

Dallas County News "Giving Students A Voice"

This article was written by Beth Dalbey, from the Dallas County News Paper in Adel. She visited our school to hear about our technology. She interviewed me in PLN. We talked a lot about Dipity and Study Blue. I wanted to make sure she knew that I think the computers have really transformed me into who I am. I wouldn't have had all these great opportunities if we were not a 1 to 1 school.
